Born in Detroit in 1955 and raised in St. Clair Shores, I am a second generation Michigander (or, Michiganian, if you prefer) outdoorsman and hunter.
It is an indication of how long ago it was, that I can't remember how old I was when my father gave me one of those solid fiberglass recurves, but I still have that bow. With an odd assortment of arrows, I was the terror of rabbits and squirrels, from my home (SCS had quite a bit of woods and fields in those days) to my mother's family's farm in Belle River, Ontario, CA. I have to admit that it didn't occur to me to go after "Big Game" like Whitetail, with anything other than my trusty Winchester M70 (yes, pre-64) 30-06, until I got a 70# Bear TD in about '78. Today, I'm mostly a longbow guy, but I think that anything that will launch a projectile down range is great fun.
However, I didn't consider joining the Michigan Bow Hunters Association until a few years ago.
True to form though, I am now all in. I was thrilled to be allowed to become a Life Member last year. After serving as a Macomb County Rep for a couple of years, our new District 10 Governor saw fit to promote me to Lieutenant Governor.
I taught both of my daughters to shoot recurves at an early age. Though neither of them hunt (take after their mother that way), I now have the opportunity to try to make bow hunters of their husbands and my granddaughter. Dean and Ellen Hall let me help them teach beginner archery at our local community center during the winter. I am working on becoming a Bow Hunter Safety Instructor.
As implied above, I am an all season hunter (rifle, shotgun, muzzle-loader) and enjoy all shooting sports. I am an NRA Instructor and Range Safety Officer.
I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve the Bow Hunters of Michigan, through the MBH, as their Vice President.
