Why join Michigan Bow Hunters Association?
Michigan Bow Hunters Association was founded in 1946 by a group of dedicated bow hunters that felt that their wishes were not met by any other archery organization in Michigan.
MBH’s purpose is to promote the enjoyment and betterment of the sport of bow hunting. MBH speaks for you with the State Legislature in Lansing the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) as well as the Natural Resource Committee (NRC), and other State of Michigan hunting fishing and conservation organizations. We have sponsored legislation to 1) archery licenses, we now buy only one license or a combo license for archery or firearm deer hunting 2) elevated tress stands for all big game hunting 3) 77 day season, and 4) the black bear to hunting rules for bait hunters and the point system currently in use was developed in part by Michigan Bow Hunters Association
Working with the MDNR, we have promoted 1) longer seasons, (where it was originally 10 days), 2) Combo Deer license structure which allows you to hunt longer, and 3) adjust season dates so that all species don’t have to be hunted in the same time frame like the current bear season, 4) promoted habitat management throughout the state.
We follow the Pope & Young Club’s rules for fair chase in all hunting activities regardless of game species.
During the past several years Michigan Bow Hunters Association has donated money to the numerous not-for profit organizations promoting bow hunting and bringing young people into the sport. Some of the activities include B4K, Pope and Young, Camp Wilderness, National Archery in Schools Program (NASP), and Affiliated clubs throughout the state for Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD). Our Members are also active in state wide clubs like Michigan Archers Association, Michigan Longbow Association, Michigan Traditional Bow hunters, and other local archery centers throughout the state of Michigan. We have a network of bow hunters throughout Michigan all promoting archery and bow hunting.
MBH provided the initial funding and support to bring the International Bow hunter Education Program (IBEP) to Michigan. In addition, MBH members have grouped together to continue these IBEP activities working directly with the MDNR and other state agencies to keep this education activity in the forefront.
Communication among bow hunters is provided through our newsletter, which is published nine issues per year, monthly in the summer and bi-monthly during the winter. When an important issues come up, postcards, letters, or emails are sent to all members to inform them of the issues and where to make their comments. Our Affiliate Club Membership is another way to keep more bow hunters informed of the important bow hunting related issues.
Spring Awards Banquet and quarterly meetings give members an opportunity to socialize and discuss concerns pertaining to bow hunting. Each year we have big game awards Banquet. During the banquet we have a photo cover contest, auctions, raffles, special awards, and much more. We use this event to celebrate our member’s successes and use this event to reward our members for participation on the club. We also time our board meetings to coordinate with our activity schedule, this enables our members to attend meetings while attending our events.
The MBH is a respected organization dedicated to the promotion and education of bow hunting and bow hunters, and to wildlife conservation. Support an organization that supports YOU! There is still a lot to do!
We hope we have provided you with answers to some of your questions. We realize there is always room for improvement and that comes about through your participation. If you would like more information about Michigan Bow Hunters, you can contact any of our
