Bow hunting has been an important part of my life. Whether my hunt is successful or not, I always enjoy spending time in the woods. When I was growing up, I used to watch my father and his friends shoot their bows in our yard. Eventually my father bought me a solid fiberglass bow and some kids' arrows. The arrows are long gone, but I still have that bow and shoot it once in a while. When I was old enough, I started bow hunting with my father. I've never missed a Michigan bow hunting season in forty years.
Thirty years ago, I married Suzanne, and we raised two sons, who are now grown. I taught both boys to hunt and spent a lot of time in the woods and at deer camp with them. Now I'm semi-retired and bow hunting even more. In the summer we attend archery events all over Michigan and in the winter I make arrows.
I joined the Michigan Bow Hunters a few years ago after attending a Fred Bear Memorial Shoot in Tuscola where I got a very friendly welcome from MBH members. I became governor of District 4 so that I could do my part to help our organization that promotes and works to protect the sport of bow hunting that we all enjoy.
